Powder in the morning, crud in the afternoon, and carved groomed arcs down for après. The Yvette A112 combines the loose and early planing feel of a fully rockered ski with aggressive sidecut and slight camber underfoot. Taking cues from the redesign of the Wailer 112RP2, the legend continues as the Yvette A112 features an even greater sweet spot geared for optimal high-speed and crud performance.

ALCHEMIST CONSTRUCTION:

The world’s only Pure carbon fiber sandwich ski with a decade of development—uncompromising in every regard.

The Birth of Alchemist

Alchemist is an important evolutionary step in one of our main developmental tracks: the perfection of the carbon ski. Ever since DPS introduced the first carbon fiber sandwich ski construction in 2005, we have believed wholeheartedly in the promise of this amazing material. Carbon is all about power to weight ratios. Superior torsional stiffness coupled with a lightweight build translates into powerful grip when the ski is engaged as well as agility off-edge. If pure carbon skis have a weakness, it’s been their bio-feedback in rough snow. The lack of mass combined with such a reactive material can at times feel like a stiff sports car-like ride.

We have engineered around this shortcoming before with decent success––SS strips, various damping layers, and related experiments. But none of these engineering adventures are as significant as Alchemist. For 2017-2018, Alchemist arrives with proprietary dampening elements in the right locations; optimized to tune out the bad vibrations while letting the good ones thrive. The focus is on carbon, but it’s the behind the scene actors, the complementary spices, that allow carbon itself to take center stage. In concert with material changes, we have begun to also take steps toward refining flex patterns to the same effect. Flex patterns and the distribution of stiffness have a major impact on how a ski responds to choppy and mixed snow.

This is a long evolutionary path, and we now find ourselves one step closer to the grail: a light weight, torsionally stiff ski that begs you to drive faster and push it harder. The ski of our dreams is easy to initiate, yet infinitely rewarding. It’s out there on the horizon––an idea that keeps us up at night, tinkering and testing 10 months of the year. As you read this, we are probably out there somewhere, building prototypes at the factory or analyzing graphs at the kitchen table, gliding up the skin track, or banging out laps at the resort. The story is about a constant and relentless push to develop new sidecuts, flex patterns, and layups toward something better, smoother, more powerful, and bliss-inducing.
